Jay Talk – 1/18/24

January 18, 2024

You spoke and we listened! Welcome to our new newsletter, “Pulse of The J.” To minimize how often we send you email, Pulse is a combination of our different pieces into one effective and efficient email that you can expect to receive every other Thursday afternoon.

We’d love your feedback on Pulse and how we can continue to improve how we communicate with you.

A few items to be aware of:

  • On Tue, Jan 30 at 11am, we’ll be making 2,000 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to be distributed by Rabbi Shmuly and his team. A major thanks to those who have already volunteered to help. If you’re interested, please shoot me an email at jayj@vosjcc.org. Lunch will be provided.
  • The three (3) new outdoor Pickleball courts are getting close to completion! Keep an eye out for information in terms of ribbon cutting, special events, and how to reserve a court.
  • Because “we really do want to know,” we’ll be sending out a day and time for a “Town Hall” meeting. At this meeting, we’ll be asking you to help identify The J’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. More to come on this.
  • The J Walking Club with Scottsdale Police Officers was created after learning from seniors that they didn’t walk outside anymore due to fear or restrictions. As shown by the American Heart Association, walking is easy, safe, and requires no special equipment. In fact, research shows that walking at an energetic pace can help you think, feel, and sleep better. It can also reduce the risk of serious disease, boost bone health, and help maintain a healthy weight. A walking club offers several advantages over exercising alone: accountability, socializing, increased motivation, and safety. The J Walking Club meets every Thursday at 9am, January to March. Everyone is welcome!!!
  • Camp: A reminder, summer will be upon us quickly and that means camp. Shemesh at The J is where you want to be, as Erin and her team have developed what promises to be an incredible summer of fun. Registration is open and our discount registration day is January 23 through May 14 Contact Erin at erinw@vosjcc.org for information.
  • Heart Month: February is “Heart Month.” It’s a great time to get healthy or healthier. Watch throughout the month for tips, information, and programs all geared to keeping/getting you heart healthy.
  • Early Childhood: Registration for our fall Early Childhood Program is open and very strong. Our program is unique, learning and activity based, and top notch. Interested to get going either this summer or fall? Contact leahz@vosjcc.org for additional information or to schedule a tour.
  • Aquatics: This is a great time to be thinking about summer fun in the sun and water safety. Whether your child needs to learn to swim or improve their current water skills, our aquatic team can meet your needs. Contact Pam at pamh@vosjcc.org to get started. We also offer swim team, masters, and adult lessons!
  • Referrals: We know there’s nothing better than word of mouth marketing. To help you help us, for every member you refer (they must sign up for a 12- month membership), you’ll receive one free month of membership. It’s that simple. Please make sure they provide your name as the referral when joining.

Please give me a call with any thoughts and/or questions and as always, please know how much we appreciate you being a member of our J family.
