We have a variety of programs to pique your interest and to engage mind and bodies, from infants to seniors.
No matter your fitness goals, The J can help you reach them. We have the equipment, classes and trainers to help you achieve total body health through a variety of fitness and wellness programs.
We are not just about fitness. We have programs and services for all ages, interests and abilities.
Our Bob Gottschalk Youth & Camp Wing provides a fun and safe environment for youth, including our Club J after school program and new Teen Lounge. For our youngest members, we have our outstanding accredited Early Childhood Center preschool program.
We offer a variety of family friendly activities, including family yoga, story times, Kids’ Night Out and more! And, our expanded Youth Sports programs continue to grow in popularity. We offer basketball, soccer, and swim. Your teen can also join our Maccabi Games team!
Seniors find old favorites, such as Mahjong and Bridge as well as other social activities, including our Let’s Get Together series.
We even have The J Cafe, where you can relax after a workout or catch up with friends.

Jay J. Jacobs
Chief Executive Officer
The J is a way of life for our CEO. He has been involved with the movement for more than 40 years and brings his passion for The J and all it represents for the community to his work in creating a true “center for life.” Born and raised in Pittsburgh, he is a die-hard Steelers and Penn State fan, so steer clear if they lose. He also enjoys running, hiking and backyard living.
Chief Operating Officer
Kim has more than 25 years of experience working in the Jewish community. She has served in various capacities with youth, camp and programs during her 10+ years with our J before becoming COO in 2016. She strongly believes in the power of community, of bringing people together and of enriching lives. The J is truly Kim’s home and she looks forward to welcoming you and sharing her passion.
With graduate work in exercise physiology and American College of Sports Medicine, EMT and CRT certifications; Nancy’s passion for health and fitness is evident not only in her daily work, but also in her personal accomplishments; completing over 70 marathons and the Ironman competition. Her mission is to make The J a home away from home for our members and guests.
Assistant General Manager
Kristina has 10+ years of private club management, member services, staff and culture expertise. She truly believes that it “takes a village” to accomplish great goals and is a true people-person. She enjoys working with people of all ages and sharing her passion for The J by creating experiences and lasting memories for all who enter our doors.
Director of Security
Jimmy Wasson has 30+ years in law enforcement and retired as a Lieutenant with the Scottsdale Police Department. He has extensive experience as a negotiations team commander and as a SWAT team commander responsible for the tactical resolution of high-risk incidents and technical investigations.
Member Services Supervisor
Tricia has over 20 years of experience in member customer service relations and has been involved with The J for many years. It is home away from home for her and her seven children. Tricia truly loves working with members and guests and considers them as her extended family.
Membership Database Administrator
Susan grew up in a J and was thrilled to become part of our team in 2002. Her now-grown children participated in the Maccabi Games and her husband was the Delegation Head when the games were held in Phoenix in 2006. She feels fortunate to be a part of The J and to witness the positive impact it has on the lives of others.
Fitness + Sports
Adam was a classical ballet dancer for 10 years with several companies in the US and Japan. He danced in Disney and Broadway productions. He enjoys helping people of all ages become their personal best through exercise and is NASM, Les Mills BODYPUMP™, TRX, MX4, BARRE, Cycle, Aqua, and Pilates certified.
Personal Training Manager
Bryan has been in the fitness industry for 20+ years and is dedicated to helping individuals reach their fitness goals. He studied kinesiology at Arizona State University and is a NCCPT- and ACSM-certified trainer. Bryan enjoys helping members improve their strength, stamina and fitness and matching members with The J’s amazing personal training staff.
Debbie’s passion for swimming began at an early age, ultimately leading her to compete as a nationally-ranked young adult. Today, she continues to swim as a US Masters swimmer and compete in both pool and open-water events. Debbie enjoys developing a passion for swimming in people of all ages and abilities.
Director of Sports & Adaptive Recreation
Alex is originally from Brazil where she studied and played soccer for 11 years. She was part of the Brazilian Women’s National Team that took the silver medal in the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. Alex started her career 14 years ago at The J as Youth Sports Coordinator and ended as Camp Director. She rejoined our team in January 2018 and loves sharing her love of sports with members of all ages.

Rachel’s J journey began in 1994 when she worked at her local J’s pool’s snack shack and monitored the youth wing. She has been with the J movement for 20 years and has been actively involved in Early Childhood Education for the last 10 years. Rachel feels the J movement has an amazing impact on the community and fortunate to still be a part of it.

Jessica is an experienced early education professional who has served in a variety of education related capacities at the private, federal and classroom levels with a passion for curriculum instruction, teacher training and the development of quality early education programming. She enjoys creating a fun, creative and nurturing environment for all our ECC families.

Tami has a BA in Elementary Education and an MA in Instructional Technology – she even worked with NASA as an education specialist! She brings all her passion and experience into creating a fun environment and enriching experiences for our youth.

Cheryl has 10 years’ experience planning educational, social and cultural programs for active adults. A native of Philadelphia, she moved to Arizona in 2017 after being an annual visitor to the Valley for 30 years. She has a true passion for her work supporting members to be engaged and enthusiastic about connecting, learning and life.
Community Special Events
Director of Community Engagement
Before coming to The J, Megan worked for the Phoenix Suns for 20 years in community relations, special events and corporate sponsorships. She uses her vast experience to create relationships, events and connections that not only strengthen the community, but also that make The J a true hub for the community.
Laura has worked in the non-profit sector for more than 20 years and enjoys creating noteworthy events with unique environments and quality experiences for our members and guests. Born in Canada, Laura is thrilled to call Arizona home, which she enjoys with her husband Mark, daughter Skye and a Weimaraner named Ridge!
Director of Corporate Giving
Andrea has extensive experience in forging corporate partnerships, working with nationwide retailers for over 18 years. Growing up at The J, Andrea was excited to join The J team in 2011 and very enthusiastic to be fundraising for an organization that has made such a meaningful impact on her whole family in so many ways.
Director of Donor Stewardship
Michelle has worked in marketing and development for over 20 years. Michelle has an energetic spirit and a passion for working within the Jewish community. She has been a member of four different J’s and each has played a pivotal role for her and her family. Michelle is happy to call the Valley of the Sun JCC her home away from home.
Director of Donor Cultivation
The J has impacted Pamela’s life both professionally and personally. Her roots run deep; she served as director for the capital campaign to build this campus and was touched when The J rallied around her family years ago when her daughter was an ECC student and diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer. She truly believes that members are family.
